Welcome to the Nariai Lab at UCLA

The Nariai Lab is located in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Hiroki Nariai, MD, PhD, MS is the principal investigator (PI) and a pediatric neurologist/epileptologist. Our research is shaped by our practical clinical insights and motivated by the unique experiences and challenges of our patients.

Our Research 

  • A deep convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture processes an input spectrogram of an EEG signal.
    Progressing through successive convolutional, pooling, and residual blocks before applying global average pooling and a sigmoid activation to produce a binary output.
  • The input image fed into the CNN architecture for deep learning training.
    Consists of three components: a time-frequency plot on the left, a normalized EEG morphology plot in the center, and amplitude information on the right.
